Registered Psychologists in Australia are bound by law to adhere to guidelines of ethical conduct as specified by the Psychology Board of Australia and the Australian Psychological Society (APS). All services provided by McQuillen Psychology adhere to these guidelines.
CONFIDENTIALITY
All psychological services provided by McQuillen Psychology are confidential and all client records are stored securely to protect the client’s confidentiality. This means that unless required by the law, a client’s records or any information about the client will not be shared with any other person unless the client has given permission for that information to be shared.
WHEN CONFIDENTIALITY MAY NOT APPLY
In some circumstances the Psychologist may be required by law to share or report information. This includes:

APS CLIENT CHARTER OF RIGHTS
As a member of the Australian Psychological Society John McQuillen provides psychological services in accordance with their Charter of Client rights. This means you can expect:
- To be treated with respect,
- Receive a clear explanation of the service you will receive,
- Have your consent for any service that will be provided sought by the psychologist prior to the service commencing and as it progresses if necessary,
- Receive an explanation about the nature and limits of confidentiality surrounding the service,
- You will be clear about the goals that you and the psychologist are working toward,
- You will receive a competent and professional service,
- You will receive a clear statement about fees,
- An estimate of the number of sessions required to achieve your goals will be discussed,
- You will receive a service free from sexual harassment,
- You will be shown respect for your cultural background and language tradition.
